Publick House: A New American Salad Experience in Mountainside, NJ

Great meal but a little rushed. Can be a bit tight for dining. Really good bartenders. Good drinks. Decent beer selection.

I just had dinner here during their happy hour. Jason the bartender did a great job. I had the "Our Old Fashioned" for $11 on happy hour and their special Negroni for $13 plus the $12 burger and fries on happy hour. The only negative was the 3% charge for using credit card. That has to be the tackiest thing a restaurant owner can do. It's a cost of doing business. But let's set that aside. It was a first rate dinner and drinks on my business trip.

Went here for lunch with my wife. We got a couple beers, the tuna appetizer and two burgers. The food was great except our burgers were well done and no where near the medium rare we asked for. We didn't send it back, it was not a big enough deal to us. The tuna appetizer was the best thing we had. I have to say they struck a nerve with one of my biggest restaurant pet peeves, which is the credit card "convenience" fee. C'mon people. I'm willing to pay $100+ for 2 beers, an appetizer and 2 burgers. I'm not super happy about the price but I accept it because it's the price of doing business these days. Don't push part of your credit card fees onto your customers. It sends a bad message. Your employees salvaged a 4 star rating for you. The service was great. Get rid of your convenience fee. You can afford the 3.5% if you're going to charge me $20 for a frozen burger with fake cheese.

Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food which was top tier. It was all seasoned perfectly. The service was prompt and professional. The corn dip was obviously hand crafted with love, and not processed. Ambiance was appropriate for a dinner setting and I found the tables to be incredibly appropriate in their spacing. Great job Publick House!

First time at Publik House and I was pleased with my experience! I went in a Thursday night and the spot was packed but I was seated without issues. Great vibes & friendly atmosphere. For dinner I ordered the burger with truffle fries, both good on flavors. Also ordered the brisket and this was a generous portion. It can be shared for sure! I’ll definitely dine here again!

In the Fall I went for brunch, sat outside, had a great meal with only a few other patrons present. So I decided to try out their dinner menu and was surprised how busy it was! Absolutely packed. Definitely recommend a reservation. We ordered 3 sides for $25 as an appetizer and they were fantastic: roasted carrots, cheddar and bacon fingerlings, and Gouda mac and cheese. They blew us away “if the sides are this good, imagine what the meal is going to be like.” We decided to play it safe and get traditional pub food: burger and fish & chips. Burger was great with imitation Big Mac sauce. However, fish and chips had undercooked batter and wasn’t good. Fish was watery. Don’t recommend ordering. But service was very attentive. Atmosphere was good.

This place is on the expensive side, even during their happy hour, but they were great! We split the chorizo dip which was amazing, and I had the arugula salad which was great- but I would have loved some more toppings added in there. Overall it was very nice and I’d definitely come back!

We found Publick House about five years ago after my wife saw an Instagram post of some fries that looked too good to pass up. We went once and got hooked. Ever since, this place has never disappointed. The service, the food, the drinks, everything is consistently excellent. The bar is impressive with a wide selection of spirits, rums, beers, and more. The burger is one of the best I have ever had and the duck dishes are full of flavor. During the summer they open the patio terrace and serve a variety of brunch plates and drinks. They also rotate the menu every few months which keeps things fresh and exciting. If you are anywhere near the area and want a reliable spot with amazing food and great vibes, Publick House is a must. I totally recommend it.
